2026 Sagamihara City Museum Stargazing: A Full-Day Course
This is a day packed full of space for kids who love the cosmos. The Sagamihara City Museum is open 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, closed Mondays (open if Monday is a public holiday), and closed the day after a public holiday and during the New Year holidays (December 28 to January 3); admission to the permanent exhibits is free. Planetarium admission is 500 yen for adults and 200 yen for ages 4 through junior high school students (free for elementary and junior high school students who live or attend school in Sagamihara City). The Stargazing Night held in the evening is free to join, and lets you look through a telescope at real stars, the highlight of this course. In the afternoon, start at the Space Science and Exploration Exchange Building on the JAXA Sagamihara Campus, just across the road. You can view an actual rocket and test models of space probes for free (open 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, closed Mondays and the day after public holidays; no reservation needed for individual visitors). Let the probe exhibits grow your curiosity about space, then look at real stars through a telescope at night, a flow unique to Fuchinobe, the Town of Space. Since the date, time, and how to join the Stargazing Night vary by day, be sure to check the official website before you go and plan your visit around the scheduled date.
