2026 Full-Day Course: Hakone Komagatake Ropeway Hakone Sora Tabi (Cosmic Journey) Starry Sky Observation & Night View Tour
This day centers on Hakone Sora Tabi, a night tour that takes the Komagatake Ropeway from Hakone-en on the shore of Lake Ashi up to the 1,356m summit to enjoy the stars and night view at the same time. The special nighttime service normally runs from mid-October to mid-January, on Saturdays and the middle day of three-day weekends, with multiple departures between 17:00 and 19:00 (2024-25 season record: October 12, 2024 to January 12, 2025). The fare, including the round-trip ropeway ride, is 1,800 yen for adults and 900 yen for elementary school students (2024-25 season record). Since the schedule and fares for the next season (fall 2026 onward) have not yet been announced, please be sure to check the official website for the latest information before you go. The summit sits above Lake Ashi, far from city lights, under an open sky with little to block the view, and under good conditions you can take in a sky full of stars and the night view of the Hakone area at the same time. During the day, meet the Baikal seals at Hakone-en Aquarium, and in the evening visit Hakone Shrine and the Heiwa no Torii on Lake Ashi. Once the sun sets, return to Hakone-en and take the ropeway up to the starlit summit. Nights at 1,356m get as cold as midwinter, so do not forget solid cold-weather clothing.
