2026 A Full Day at Okurayama Memorial Hall (大倉山記念館) and the Okura Institute of Spiritual Culture Library (大倉精神文化研究所附属図書館)
Climb the hill from Okurayama Station (大倉山駅) on the Tokyu Toyoko Line and you will find the classic white Western-style building of Okurayama Memorial Hall (大倉山記念館). Built in a Pre-Hellenic style rare in Japan, it is a cultural property designated by the City of Yokohama. Inside it, the Okura Institute of Spiritual Culture Library (大倉精神文化研究所附属図書館) is the highlight of this day. Spending time with books inside such a stately building is a special experience quite different from a neighborhood library. In the morning, stroll through Okurayama Park (大倉山公園), which surrounds the memorial hall, and enjoy the greenery and views atop the hill. The library is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 to 16:30, and closed on Sundays, Mondays, holidays, and the year-end and New Year period. Since it closes relatively early, allow plenty of time in the afternoon. This is a day well worth walking for families who love architecture and books.
