2026 A Full-Day Course with the Yokosuka Museum of Art Library
This is a day spent immersed in art books at the library of the Yokosuka Museum of Art (横須賀美術館), which overlooks Tokyo Bay. The library can be used free of charge without an admission ticket, and you can freely browse specialized art books, art collections, and even art books for children. Open 10:00-18:00 (requests for closed-stack materials accepted until 17:30). In the morning, stroll through Kanagawa Prefectural Kannonzaki Park (県立観音崎公園), which spreads out next to the museum, and head to Kannonsaki Lighthouse (観音埼灯台), standing at the end of the seaside promenade. Known as Japan's first Western-style lighthouse, you can climb the white lighthouse (viewing donation: adults 300 yen, free for elementary school students and younger) and look down over the ships passing through Tokyo Bay. After walking along the sea and through the forest, spend the afternoon in the quiet library with a book. The museum space itself, with sea light streaming in through the glass, is a highlight in its own right, this course will make you realize that a museum isn't only a place to view exhibitions. The library is closed on the first Monday of each month (the following week if that Monday is a holiday), and also from December 29 to January 3.
