2026 Onshi Hakone Park (恩賜箱根公園) Garden Walk – A Full Day Course

This course spends a whole day enjoying lake views at Onshi Hakone Park (恩賜箱根公園), which spreads across the Tōgashima (塔ヶ島) peninsula jutting into Lake Ashi (芦ノ湖). Admission is free and open at any time (only the Lakeside Observation Hall inside the park is closed from December 29 to January 3). As the former site of the Hakone Imperial Villa (箱根離宮), the garden paths open onto views of Lake Ashi and the Hakone mountains at every turn. In the morning, walk the cedar avenue of the Old Hakone Highway (箱根旧街道杉並木), which still evokes the Edo period, and visit Hakone Checkpoint (箱根関所). In the afternoon, follow the park's paths and take your time enjoying the grand view from the observation plaza. A parking lot (7:00–21:00, last entry 19:00; regular cars ¥500 on weekdays, ¥1,000 on weekends and holidays) makes the spot easy to visit by car as well.
