2026 Kawasaki City Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum (川崎市立日本民家園) – A Full Day Course
This is a day to step back in time at the Kawasaki City Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum (川崎市立日本民家園), where thatched-roof old farmhouses line a hill in Ikuta Ryokuchi Park (生田緑地). Opening hours are 9:30–17:00 (last entry 16:30) from March to October, and 9:30–16:30 (last entry 16:00) from November to February. Closed on Mondays (open if a public holiday), the day after a public holiday (open if it falls on a weekend or holiday), and year-end/New Year (Dec 29–Jan 3). Admission is 550 yen for adults, 330 yen for high school/university students and those 65 and older (ID required), and free for junior high school students and younger. The smell of hearth smoke, the cool feel of the wooden floors, the thickness of the roofs — this open-air museum lets children experience 'the real old days' that a textbook can't convey, with all five senses. In the morning, enjoy the view from the Masugatayama Observatory (枡形山展望台), also within Ikuta Ryokuchi Park, and in the afternoon spend plenty of time walking through the folk house museum.
