A 2026 Full-Day Course Spent at the Kanagawa Prefectural Library (Maekawa Kunio Hall and Main Building)
A day to enjoy architecture and books together at the Kanagawa Prefectural Library, standing in the cultural zone of Momijigaoka in Yokohama. The prefectural library consists of Maekawa Kunio Hall, designed by Maekawa Kunio, a leading architect of Japanese modernist architecture, and a Main Building, with the building itself being a highlight. Opening hours are 9:00-19:00 Tuesday through Friday, and 9:00-17:00 on weekends and holidays. In the morning, walk up from the foot of the slope to Kamonyama Park. This hilltop park has a statue of Ii Naosuke, who was involved in the opening of the port of Yokohama, along with a view looking down over the buildings of Minato Mirai, a Japanese garden with a pond, and a children's playground. In the afternoon, move to the library at the top of the hill for a leisurely time with books. It is a quintessentially Yokohama day of culture, connecting a hill of history with a hill of knowledge on foot. The library is closed on Mondays (except public holidays), the second Thursday (or the following Friday if it falls on a holiday), the New Year holidays, and during the collection inspection period, so please check the official website before heading out.
