2026 Full-Day Course Enjoying the Kanagawa Prefectural Kawasaki Library (Monozukuri Information Library) (神奈川県立川崎図書館(ものづくり情報ライブラリー))
This is a day for satisfying a science-loving curiosity at the Kanagawa Prefectural Kawasaki Library (神奈川県立川崎図書館), a unique prefectural library specializing in monozukuri, or manufacturing and craftsmanship. Located inside Kanagawa Science Park (かながわサイエンスパーク, KSP), this library is a rare institution nationwide, gathering books focused on natural science and industrial technology. It is a treasure trove of books on machinery, electricity, chemistry, vehicles, and more, ready to answer questions about how things work. Opening hours are 9:30-19:30 Monday through Friday, and 9:30-17:30 on Saturdays and public holidays. In the morning, head to the Oyama Kaido Furusato-kan (大山街道ふるさと館) in the town of Mizonokuchi (溝口). In its free exhibition room, parents and children can trace the history of Mizonokuchi as a post town on the highway that once connected Edo and Oyama. The charm of this course lies in its journey through time, from the history of an old highway to the cutting edge of modern manufacturing. The library is closed on Sundays (including when a Sunday falls on a public holiday), on the second Thursday of the month (moved to the following Friday if that Thursday is a public holiday), over the New Year holidays, and during its annual materials inspection period, so plan your outing for a weekday or Saturday.
