2026 A Full Day at the Kanagawa Museum of Modern Literature
This is a day to spend quiet time with books at the Kanagawa Museum of Modern Literature (神奈川近代文学館), standing on a corner of Harbor View Park (港の見える丘公園) atop the hills of Yamate in Yokohama. A specialized facility collecting materials on modern Japanese literature, it holds literature-related exhibitions in its exhibition room, and the reading room can be used free of charge. The permanent exhibition is easy to visit, costing 310 yen for adults and free for junior high school students and younger. In the morning, walk from Motomachi-Chukagai Station (元町・中華街駅) through America Yama Park (アメリカ山公園) and up the hill, then stroll through Harbor View Park with its view of Yokohama Bay Bridge. If it's rose season, you can also enjoy the three rose gardens. In the afternoon, take your time with the exhibits and the reading room at the museum, enjoying both the atmosphere of the port town and a bookish afternoon in one course. The museum is closed on Mondays (open on national holidays), so please check the opening days before you go.
