2026 One-Day Course: A Day Spent with the Kamakura City Kawakita Film Memorial Museum
This course combines a shrine visit, a food-and-shopping stroll, and a movie experience in the old capital of Kamakura. In the morning, visit Kamakura's symbol, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine (鶴岡八幡宮), then stroll along Komachi-dori (小町通り) on your way back. This lively street lined with souvenir shops and snack stalls is fun for both children and adults just to walk through. In the afternoon, head to the Kamakura City Kawakita Film Memorial Museum (鎌倉市川喜多映画記念館), a quiet spot set just one street back from Komachi-dori. Opened in 2010 on the former residence of Mr. and Mrs. Kawakita, who introduced world-renowned films to Japan, the museum features exhibits of film-related materials and screenings, as well as a reading room for film-related documents. It is also easy to visit thanks to its affordable special exhibition admission of 300 yen for adults and 150 yen for elementary and junior high school students. Step just a little away from the bustle and spend a quiet afternoon immersed in the world of film and archival materials. The museum is closed on Mondays (or the following weekday if Monday is a public holiday), so check the opening days before you go.
