2026 Full-Day Course: Sweet Potato & Peanut Digging at Kurokawa Higashi Imohori-kai (黒川東芋掘会)
This is a day of digging sweet potatoes and peanuts at Kurokawa Higashi Imohori-kai (黒川東芋掘会), a potato-digging event held on the Kurokawa Higashi farming estate (黒川東営農団地) in Kurokawa, Asao Ward, Kawasaki City. It typically runs from early September to the end of October (ending earlier if reservations fill up or the harvest runs out). In September it's held Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays only; from October it runs daily. The per-plant digging price is 300 yen for sweet potatoes and 250 yen for peanuts (current price as listed on the official website). The fields spread out just a short distance from Kurokawa Station on the Odakyu Tama Line, making this a potato-digging outing popular with families for how easily it can be reached by train. Parking and restrooms are also available. In the morning, browse Kawasaki-grown vegetables and fruit at Ceresa Mosu Asao, a large farm-produce direct-sales store run by JA in the same Kurokawa area, and in the afternoon get covered in soil digging potatoes in the fields. It's a course for fully experiencing autumn's harvest in the satoyama countryside preserved right next to the city. Please check the official website for the latest event status and reservation method before you go.
