2026 Full-Day Cool Stroll Course: Sensuji-no-taki (Thousand-Strand Falls)
Rocked gently by the Hakone Tozan Railway, this is a cool stroll through Kowakidani, Hakone, taking in a green garden and a quiet waterfall. The highlight, Sensuji-no-taki Falls, lives up to its name (meaning thousand strands) with a delicate beauty: many thin streams of water flow down a mossy rock face across a width of about 25 meters, like a bamboo blind. Along the tree-lined stream, sunlight barely reaches, and the air stays cool and filled with the sound of water, making it a pleasant spot even in September and October, when global warming keeps the heat lingering. Viewing the outdoor falls is free, reached on foot along a forest path from Kowakidani Station. In the morning, take a leisurely stroll through the roughly 5,000-tsubo, free-to-enter Horai-en Garden. With the mountain train's scenery, the garden's greenery, and the sound of the falls, this is a family-friendly course that ties together Hakone's coolness through an easy train trip.
