2026 Makuyama Park (幕山公園) Cool Stroll: A Full-Day Course
This is a day to enjoy the coolness of the greenery at the foot of the mountain and the murmuring river at Makuyama Park (幕山公園) in Yugawara Town. The park spreads out at the base of Mt. Maku (幕山), known for its distinctive columnar-jointed rock face, and the Arasaki River (新崎川) flows through the grounds; the shade along the river and the sound of the water bring a pleasant coolness even in the hot season. The park is famous as a plum-blossom viewing spot, but even in the green season, the grassy lawn and mountain scenery are pleasant, making it ideal for a relaxed family outing. Admission is free to enter anytime (except during the Plum Blossom Festival from early February to mid-March, when admission is 300 yen and parking is also charged during that period). Parking is available. In the morning, head from Yugawara Station (湯河原駅) toward the hot spring town and stroll through Manyo Park (万葉公園) along the mountain stream. In the afternoon, spend the hot hours enjoying the coolness of the river and shade at the foot of Mt. Maku (幕山).
