2026 Mount Komagatake, Hakone (Komagatake Ropeway) Cool Stroll: A Full One-Day Course
Ride the Komagatake Ropeway straight up from the shore of Lake Ashi to the summit and enjoy the coolness at roughly 1,300 meters elevation in a single day. The ropeway ride to the summit of Mount Komagatake, Hakone takes about 7 minutes. The summit is much cooler than the lowlands, and even in September and October, when warming temperatures keep the heat going, the breeze crossing the grassland is cool and refreshing. Below spreads Lake Ashi, and on clear days a sweeping panorama extends all the way to Mount Fuji and Sagami Bay. The ropeway runs from a first departure at 9:00 to a last ascent at 16:30 and last descent at 16:50 (every 20 minutes, at the :00/:20/:40 marks past the hour); a round trip costs 2,200 yen for adults (junior high school age and up) and 1,100 yen for elementary school students. Service may be suspended in bad weather such as strong wind or lightning. This course stops in the morning at Hakone Shrine on the shore of Lake Ashi and the Heiwa no Torii standing on the lake, then spends the hot afternoon hours in the coolness of the summit.
