2026 Hokoku-ji (報国寺) Garden Walk Full-Day Course
A day to slowly savor the quiet of the bamboo grove at Hokoku-ji (報国寺) in Kamakura, known as the 'Temple of Bamboo.' In the morning, visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (鶴岡八幡宮) from Kamakura Station (鎌倉駅), pass by Sugimoto-dera (杉本寺), said to be Kamakura's oldest temple, and in the afternoon finally arrive at Hokoku-ji (報国寺). Admission to the bamboo garden, where moso bamboo (孟宗竹) rises toward the sky, is 400 yen for high school students and up, and 200 yen for elementary and middle school students. Enjoying matcha tea while gazing at the garden (600 yen, includes a dry sweet; tickets sold until 15:30) is one of the pleasures here. Visiting hours are 9:00-16:00. Listen to the sound of the wind passing through the bamboo, and a special hush falls naturally over children and adults alike.
