2026 Former Kacho-no-miya Residence (旧華頂宮邸) Garden Stroll: A Full Day Course
Spend a day taking in the quiet of the Western-style house and garden at the Former Kacho-no-miya Residence (旧華頂宮邸), tucked into a valley in the Jomyoji (浄明寺) area of Kamakura. The garden has free admission and is open 10:00-16:00 from April to September and 10:00-15:00 from October to March (closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays; open on public holidays with the following weekday closed instead, and closed over the New Year holidays). The interior of the building can only be entered twice a year, during the spring and autumn open-house periods. In the morning, walk through the bamboo garden at Hokoku-ji Temple (報国寺), a classic spot in the same Jomyoji area, then head to the Former Kacho-no-miya Residence in the afternoon after lunch. A walking course through one of Kamakura's calmer, less crowded areas, taking time to enjoy the trimmed greenery of the garden and the exterior of the Western-style house.
