2026 Full-Day Garden Walk at Roka Memorial Park (蘆花記念公園) (Former Wakimura Residence) (旧脇村邸)
This is a day exploring ‘Roka Memorial Park (蘆花記念公園) (Former Wakimura Residence)’ on Sakurayama (桜山) in Zushi (逗子), a place linked to the Meiji-era literary master Tokutomi Roka (徳富蘆花). Roka lived in Zushi for four years starting in Meiji 30 (1897) and wrote his masterpiece ‘Hototogisu’ (不如帰) here. The park is open year-round and free to enter; climbing the mountain path, you can see Zushi Beach (逗子海岸) and Sagami Bay (相模湾) through the trees, and on clear days even Mt. Fuji. The park's Local History Museum is open 9:00-16:00 (closed Mondays and year-end/New Year holidays). In the morning, walk from Zushi Station (逗子駅) to the sea and take a leisurely stroll along Zushi Beach (逗子海岸), then head to the hilltop park in the afternoon. It's a day of walking through Zushi that lets you take in both the scent of the sea and of literature.
