2026 Daikanzan Observatory (大観山展望台) Night View: A Full-Day Course
Spend a day with your family enjoying the shift from evening view to night view at Daikanzan Observatory (大観山展望台), which offers a full view of Lake Ashi (芦ノ湖) and Mount Fuji (富士山). The observatory sits at the summit of Daikanzan along the Anest Iwata Turnpike Hakone (アネスト岩田ターンパイク箱根), open from 5:30 to 22:30 (last entry 22:00). The toll is 900 yen for standard and light vehicles, and 650 yen for motorcycles over 125cc. In the early afternoon, visit Hakone Shrine (箱根神社) on the shore of Lake Ashi and take a commemorative photo at the Heiwa no Torii, the Peace Torii Gate standing in the lake. In the evening, drive up the Turnpike to Daikanzan, where the highlight is watching the sun set beyond Lake Ashi, followed by the starry sky and the lights at the foot of the mountain after dark. The summit is at high elevation and gets cold at night, so a jacket is a must even in autumn. Since the mountain road is dark on the way back, drive at a moderate speed, and don't forget to prepare for children's motion sickness.
