2026 Full-Day Course: Night View from Shonandaira (Koma-yama Park, 湘南平/高麗山公園)

Spend a day enjoying the sunset and night views from Shonandaira (Koma-yama Park, 湘南平/高麗山公園), a famous hilltop spot overlooking Shonan. The Rest House observation deck is open 9:30-21:30 (the observation deck area cannot be used outside these hours) and the TV Tower observation deck is open 10:00-20:30, with a parking lot and restrooms also in place. From the observation decks you can see Sagami Bay (相模湾) and the Shonan coastline, the lights of Hiratsuka and Chigasaki, and, under good conditions, even Enoshima (江の島) and Mount Fuji (富士山), making this one of Shonan's finest viewpoints. In the early afternoon, visit Hiratsuka Hachimangu Shrine (平塚八幡宮), then interact with the animals at the petting zoo in Hiratsuka City General Park (平塚市総合公園) (free admission, 9:30-17:00), before heading to Shonandaira (湘南平) before sunset. You can slowly enjoy the transition as the setting sun dyes Sagami Bay and the town lights gradually begin to shine. It is colder up in the mountains than on flat ground, so dress warmly. The mountain road is dark at night, so it is reassuring to travel by car and bring a small light for your footing.
