2026 Tobio-yama (鳶尾山) Tourist Observation Deck Night View Full-Day Course
This is a day to enjoy hiking Tobio-yama (鳶尾山), a satoyama hill in Atsugi (厚木), together with a night view. In the early afternoon, enjoy the large play equipment and sled slides at Atsugi Kodomo no Mori Park (あつぎこどもの森公園), which has free admission. From October to March it is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., so after playing to your heart's content, wrap up before evening and head to Tobio-yama. At the top of the mountain trail stands the Tobio-yama Tourist Observation Deck (鳶尾山観光展望台), known for its spiral staircase, where you can take in the full view of the Atsugi cityscape and the Sagami Plain (相模平野); the sight of the city lighting up as the sun sets is the climax of this course. The observation deck's hours are not officially listed. The mountain trail has no streetlights and becomes completely dark after sunset, so prepare a flashlight for each person, climb up while it is still light, and come back down early once you have enjoyed the night view. Don't forget sturdy footwear and warm clothing either. Families with small children shouldn't push themselves too hard, stopping after the dusk view is also a good option.
