2026 Full-Day Garden Stroll Course at Meigetsu-in (明月院)
This is a day to savor the quiet of the round window and garden at Meigetsu-in (明月院) in Kita-Kamakura. Meigetsu-in is known as a ‘hydrangea temple,’ but in autumn the crowds settle down, letting you slowly enjoy its true charm — viewing the garden through the main hall's round window, the ‘Window of Enlightenment’ (悟りの窓). The gate opens at 9:00 and closes at 16:00. Admission is 500 yen for high school students and up, and 300 yen for elementary and junior high school students (free for visitors with a disability certificate, plus one companion), with an additional 500 yen required when the rear garden of the main hall is open to the public. In the morning, immerse yourself in the gentle, picture-book-like world of watercolors at the Kita-Kamakura Yo Shomei Museum of Art (北鎌倉 葉祥明美術館), located along the road to Meigetsu-in, then head to Meigetsu-in after lunch. This is a leisurely walking course through the valleys (谷戸) of Kita-Kamakura that can be covered entirely on foot from the station.
