2026 Matsunaga Memorial Hall (Roukyoso & Youan) Garden Walk: A Full-Day Course
This is a day for savoring the quiet of a tea-ceremony garden at Matsunaga Memorial Hall (松永記念館, Roukyoso & Youan) in Itabashi, Odawara. Matsunaga Memorial Hall is connected to the businessman Matsunaga Yasuzaemon (Jian), known as the Electric Power King, and preserves a garden surrounding a pond along with buildings such as Roukyoso and Youan. It is open 9:00-17:00 (last entry 16:30), and the exhibition room can be viewed free of charge (closed December 28-January 3 for the year-end/New Year holidays, with occasional temporary closures). Parking is available. In the morning, walk from Odawara Station toward the sea side to Saikachi-koji, spending some literary time at the Western-style Odawara Literary Museum with its garden and at the Hakushu Children's Song Museum. In the afternoon, move to Itabashi to leisurely enjoy the memorial hall's garden and sukiya-style buildings, a course through Odawara's culture of villas and gardens.
