2026 Full-Day Course: Stargazing at Okawara Plateau (大川原高原)

Okawara Plateau (大川原高原, address: 5-7 Okawara, Kami, Sanagochi Village, Myodo District, Tokushima Prefecture) is a plateau at an elevation of about 1,020 m in Sanagochi Village (佐那河内村), the only village in Tokushima Prefecture. The Hilltop House (ヒルトップハウス) is equipped with an astronomical telescope (500 mm aperture), and stargazing sessions using the telescope are held a few times a year (fees are 540 yen for adults and 320 yen for children; schedules come from facility information on Manabi-a Tokushima). You will need to contact Sanagochi Village for the schedule of these sessions. There is free parking for 300 cars. Car navigation systems and map apps may direct you along poorly maintained roads, so please follow the recommended route on the Sanagochi Village official website (from the Tokushima City direction, turn left at the T-junction right after the village office; from the Kamiyama Town direction, turn right at the T-junction just before the village office). The official website does not state nighttime opening hours, so please check with Sanagochi Village before visiting.
