Walk Through the Urban Forest and Pray at the Matchmaking Shrine
About this spot
An urban forest boasting the highest number of New Year's shrine visitors in Japan. A deep green approach lined with about 100,000 commemorative trees planted from across the country creates a peaceful atmosphere unimaginable for a location near Harajuku Station. Pass through the great torii gate and walk on the pebbled path toward the main sanctuary, a shrine known for its blessings of marital harmony and good matchmaking. If you're lucky, you might encounter a wedding procession.
Tips
The approach path has pebbled stones, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Shrine stamps are available at the Kagura Hall on the east side of the main sanctuary. The Kiyomasa Well, a popular power spot, requires a separate forest maintenance contribution fee.
Best time to visit
Allow 60–90 minutes. Morning hours are quiet and pleasant
