About this spot

A large garden spanning approximately 165,000 square meters that spreads behind the Main Hall. Walking paths circling three ponds are dotted with waterfalls and gazebos; searching for koi and turtles during a stroll is hugely popular with children. Known as a plum and maple viewing destination, it draws many families during the annual plum festival in February.

Tips

The grounds have many slopes and stairs, so wear comfortable shoes. The area around Ryūchi Pond has many benches and is perfect for resting after your eel lunch.

Best time to visit

Allow 45–60 minutes. The afternoon sees fewer crowds.
