Pay Respects at the Grave of Nezumi Kozou and the Power Mound at an Ancient Edo Temple in the Morning

An ancient temple that is said to mark the beginning of Ryogoku, opened to honor the victims of the Great Meireki Fire. Within the grounds stand a power mound dedicated to past sumo wrestlers and the grave of Nezumi Kozou, a folk hero renowned as a virtuous thief, both known for their blessings on winning and fortune. This is actually the birthplace of Edo's fundraising sumo exhibitions. Starting your sumo town walk from this temple is the right choice.
Tips
At Nezumi Kozou's grave, there is a tradition of scraping off a piece of the stone substitute at the front ("omae-dachi") and taking it home. A scraping stone is provided for this purpose—try this experience with your children.
Best time to visit
Takes about 30 minutes. The morning is quiet and peaceful for prayer.
