Take a Leisurely Stroll Around the Shinzi Pond—Perfect for a Post-Lunch Walk

About this spot

A garden with a storied history, built as a daimyo's private garden during the Genroku era and later passed into the hands of the Yasuda family. The tidal pond once changed its appearance with the rise and fall of the Sumida River and has been artificially recreated as the Shinzi Pond. Walking around the pond, you'll encounter seasonal flowers and waterside birds. Its beauty is hard to believe it's free admission, making it perfect for a digestive stroll after lunch.

Tips

For lunch, head to the chanko nabe restaurants around Kokugikan Street. Sharing-style hot pot is the top choice for three-generation dining. Popular shops are less crowded if you arrive right after opening.

Best time to visit

Takes about 40 minutes. Afternoon is ideal for resting on a bench.
