Dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, the god of learning, it attracts a steady stream of worshippers seeking protective amulets for exams and work. The grove behind the shrine grounds is known as the model for the forest featured in Mizuki Shigeru's 'GeGeGe no Kitaro,' as the famous author lived in Chofu.
