An ancient shrine with a history of over 1,900 years, situated near Chofu Station. Dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, the god of learning, it attracts a steady stream of worshippers seeking protective amulets for exams and work. The grove behind the shrine grounds is known as the model for the forest featured in Mizuki Shigeru's 'GeGeGe no Kitaro,' as the famous author lived in Chofu.

Tips

The 25th of each month features a Tenjin Market (shrine festival) with bustling activity. The shrine grounds are peaceful, making an evening visit particularly pleasant. You can receive a commemorative stamp at the shrine office.
