About this spot

Said to enshrine as many as 188 deities, this is one of Ibaraki's leading power spots. Pass through the torii gate and you'll find the sacred tree called Sanbon Sugi (Three Cedars), over 500 years old, towering above, while the moss-covered approach is wrapped in a hushed, forest atmosphere. After a lively day of fun, it's the perfect way to end with a quiet family walk through the woods.

Tips

The approach is a gravel path, so a baby carrier is more reassuring than a stroller. It's about a 10-minute walk each way to the main hall, manageable even for small children. Visiting before it gets dark is recommended.

Best time to visit

40 minutes to 1 hour for a visit. Going before evening is reassuring.
