A shrine dedicated to matchmaking, watching over the weaving town of Ashikaga, with vermillion-painted shrine buildings on the hillside officially recognized as a 'Sacred Place for Love.' After climbing 229 stone steps to the summit, a sweeping panorama unfolds showcasing the Ashikaga cityscape and the Watarase River. At dusk, the sky turns crimson, creating a spectacular vista that perfectly concludes the day's journey.

Tips

Those concerned about the stone steps—grandparents or those with strollers—can drive partway up to a parking lot on the hillside, so you can divide into groups according to individual fitness levels.

Best time to visit

Plan for 40 minutes. The view is most spectacular around sunset.
