Carefully Observe the Amazon Large Tank and the Creatures of the Nakagawa River
About this spot
Tochigi Prefecture's only aquarium, famous for its tunnel-style large tank where giant piranhas and arapaimas from the Amazon swim. It displays approximately 300 species ranging from familiar freshwater creatures of the Nakagawa River, such as sweetfish, to freshwater fish from around the world. Since it's mostly indoors, it's comfortable even on rainy days. There are touch-and-feel zones and interactive programs that captivate children.
Tips
Strollers are permitted and you can move through the museum at a leisurely pace. Bring a hand towel as your hands will get wet at the interactive zone. Sunday afternoons can get crowded, so it's recommended to visit right after opening.
Best time to visit
Allows for about 2.5 hours. Visiting right after opening is the best time to avoid crowds.
