About this spot
An ancient temple of the Rinzai sect and a renowned Zen temple also known for being visited by the poet Matsuo Basho during his "Oku no Hosomichi" (Narrow Road to the Deep North) journey. Cross the vermillion arched bridge, climb the stone steps surrounded by tall cedar trees, and the temple gate comes into view with a serene atmosphere. Rain-dampened stone steps and moss create an especially beautiful landscape, offering a peaceful experience.
Tips
The stone steps become slippery in rain, so wear shoes suitable for walking. From the parking lot to the main hall, stairs continue, so hold small children's hands. It's safe to use the restroom beforehand.
Best time to visit
Allows for about 40 minutes. The quiet evening hours create a pleasant atmosphere.
