A venerable sake brewery in Niigata with roots in the Edo period, just a short walk from Numatori Terrace. They specialize in pure rice sake made with only rice and water. The free brewery tour lets you wander through fragrant wooden-beamed warehouses and see massive sake barrels up close. After the tour, you can sample local sake at the gift shop—the modern label designs make beautiful souvenirs. The entrance beneath the ceddar-ball decoration is a classic photo spot.
Tips
Brewery tours require advance reservation—check the official website. If driving, the designated driver should opt for amazake (sweet rice drink) or non-alcoholic options instead of tastings. Premium paid tasting menus are also available.
