Admire the historic embankment, once called "the finest in Asia" at completion, from the lakeside

About this spot

A historic dam built in the early Showa period stands at the entrance to Shogawa Gorge. This large-scale gravity dam was hailed as "the finest in Asia" at its completion and is registered as a Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property. The aged concrete embankment blends into the gorge's greenery with the dignity of a civil engineering heritage site. The emerald-green lake on which sightseeing boats float was created by this dam. It's recommended to stop by before and after your boat ride to compare the appearances of the upper and lower reaches.

Tips

Located just a short distance from Komaki Port, the sightseeing boat dock, making it easy to visit both by car. Viewing is done from safe vantage points observing the exterior, so choose secure locations along nearby roads or the lakeside. During water release, spray rises dramatically, increasing the visual impact. Avoid approaching unstable ground areas.

Best time to visit
