Located adjacent to Kiku-no-yu, the public bath at the heart of Yamanaka Hot Spring, this is a cultural hub celebrating the traditions of the hot spring town. The lobby is adorned with maki-e lacquerware inlay and ornate coffered ceilings, creating a luxurious space showcasing master craftwork—and it's free to view. Weekend performances of Yamanaka-bushi, a soulful local folk song, with traditional dance deepen the hot spring atmosphere. Directly in front stretches Yuge Kaido street, lined with craft shops, cafés, and casual dining options—the perfect place for a leisurely walk after lunch.
Tips
Lobby viewing is free. Yamanaka-bushi performances are held mainly on weekends and require admission; if time permits, they're highly recommended. A free foot bath is available in front of the adjacent Kiku-no-yu, perfect for soothing feet tired from the valley walk. Along Yuge Kaido, croquettes and sweets are popular snacks. A municipal parking lot is nearby.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. In the afternoon, shops along Yuge Kaido are fully open and the area is easy to explore.
