An ancient temple in Komatsu said to have been founded during the Nara period, where white weathered rock peaks called the "Scenic Wonderland of Oddly-Shaped Rocks" and moss-covered gardens create a landscape reminiscent of classical ink paintings. Dramatic temple buildings including the main hall clinging to a rocky cave and a vermillion-painted three-story pagoda are scattered across the expansive temple grounds. The experience of crawling through the rocky womb during worship feels like a small adventure for children. Renowned as a famous autumn foliage destination, the temple grounds transform with the seasons, making it perfect for morning walks by families who love history.
Tips
There are many stone steps and slopes on the grounds, so a baby carrier is more practical than a stroller. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Free parking available. Just after opening in the morning, there are fewer visitors, and you can enjoy the moss garden in peace. Admission tickets can be purchased at the entrance.

Approximately 1.5 hours required. Early morning just after opening is quietest and offers the best photo opportunities.
