Capture Mount Fuji framed by the torii gate, then enjoy Yoshida udon lunch at a nearby long-established restaurant

About this spot

A large torii gate standing along the Fuji Michi road extending straight toward Mount Fuji, long cherished as the gateway to Mount Fuji worship and a symbol of the town. The composition of Mount Fuji framed within the gate is one of Fujiyoshida's most iconic photo spots, and the sight of the sacred peak looming beyond a street lined with retro shops never fails to delight. Nearby you'll find scattered restaurants serving the local specialty Yoshida udon, featuring remarkably chewy noodles topped with boiled cabbage, sweet-savory stewed meat, and a local spicy condiment paste. This is the turnaround point of the stroll, where you can combine photography and lunch.

Tips

Take photos from the crosswalk or sidewalk, always watching for cars for safety first. Many udon shops operate only at lunch, so entering by 1:30 pm is recommended. Spice levels of the condiment paste vary by shop, so start with a small amount. Many shops accept cash only, so having small change is helpful.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Around midday, it's easier to find udon shops that are open.
