Maizuru Castle Park (舞鶴城公園)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A park occupying the ruins of Kofu Castle, stretching immediately south of Kofu Station, where the magnificent dry-stone walls built during the Toyotomi and Tokugawa periods still stand. The highlights are undoubtedly the rusticated stone walls and the castle tower foundation; from atop the foundation, visitors enjoy unobstructed views spanning the Kofu Basin cityscape, Mount Fuji, and the Southern Alps. The grounds also feature reconstructed structures including the Inari Tower and gates, allowing history enthusiasts to leisurely imagine the castle's former grandeur. Despite its station-front location, the expansive grounds offer a refreshingly open atmosphere for a relaxing afternoon.

Tips

Entrance is free, and the interior of the reconstructed Inari Tower is also freely accessible (confirm hours of operation in advance). Reaching the castle foundation involves climbing stone steps, making proper footwear essential. The grounds have limited shade, so in sunny seasons, bring a hat and water. Conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Kofu Station.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. On a clear afternoon, Mount Fuji is particularly visible from the tower foundation.
