Lunch at the Restaurant, Then Taste About 180 Selections in the Underground Wine Cave
About this spot
A comprehensive facility perched atop a grape-covered hill, serving as the hub of Katsunuma wine tourism. Start with a leisurely lunch at the well-appointed restaurant featuring local wines paired with complementary dishes. The main attraction is the underground wine cave, where purchasing a tasting cup (tastevin) lets you sample from about 180 Katsunuma wine labels displayed on shelves, discovering your favorite at your own pace. The shop offers an excellent selection from local wineries, ideal for souvenir shopping. From the hilltop, panoramic views sweep across the Kofu Basin, vineyards, and distant mountains—a perfect way to conclude the day as the evening light bathes the landscape.
Tips
Wine cave tastings require purchasing a tasting cup (tastevin) for day-long access. Since tasters cannot drive, reaching the location on foot from JR Katsunuma Budō-gō Station or by taxi is safest. The grounds also feature hot spring facilities and foot baths—bring a towel if you have time for a visit. Wine purchases can be shipped, so consult the counter if you prefer to travel light.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 3.5 hours. Spend the afternoon enjoying lunch, cave tastings, and shopping at a leisurely pace.
