About this spot
A symbolic lake of the Tateshina and Shirakaba highlands spreading across a plateau at about 1,400m elevation. Walking trails are well-maintained around the lake, where you can leisurely stroll while enjoying views of the birch forest and mountain ranges. The morning is perfect with clear air and a calm water surface, ideal for commemorative photos. Scattered along the shore are boat rentals and small shops where you can enjoy the waterside scenery with children and start your day refreshed.
Tips
Lakeside strolls are free. Free and paid parking lots are scattered in the area. At high elevation, the morning air is cool even in summer, so bring a light jacket for children. Many sections of the trail are flat and easy to walk with a stroller.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour required. Before 9 AM, there are fewer people and the water surface is calm.
