Japan's first public musical instrument museum symbolizing Hamamatsu, the city of music. Instruments collected from around the world—Asia, Europe, Africa and beyond—line the halls. From prized keyboard instruments to rare ethnic instruments, simply viewing the displays offers a musical world tour. Children especially love the interactive experience room where they can actually touch instruments and make sounds. You can freely play drums and string instruments, allowing kids to move energetically from a rainy morning. Many exhibits feature headphones so you can hear the actual tones, making it rich enough for adults to enjoy thoroughly as well.
Tips
Located about 10 minutes on foot from Hamamatsu Station, easily accessible even on rainy days. The building is stroller-friendly. The experience room is best visited right after opening when it's less crowded. Exhibits extend to the basement, so check the elevator location in advance for a smooth visit. Renting a day-pass parking spot near the station and exploring on foot in the morning is also recommended.
