A history museum located within the Koriyama Castle Ruins grounds, preserving and displaying ancient documents, calligraphy, and paintings from the Yanagisawa clan, former domain lords of Koriyama. The exhibits center on Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu, known as a trusted aide to the fifth Shōgun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, and his son Yoshisato, who became the domain lord of Koriyama. It is precisely here that you can touch the roots of the "goldfish town"—goldfish breeding is said to have been introduced from Kōfu following Yoshisato's transfer in the 9th year of Enpo (1724). The serene Japanese-style architecture and garden are charming, and leisurely viewing the exhibits with your companion while learning the castle town's history will enrich your subsequent stroll through town. Thematic special exhibitions on the Koriyama domain and castle town are also held. This quiet, intellectual space is perfect for a sophisticated date.

Located within the Koriyama Castle Ruins grounds, just a short walk from the Tenshu Terrace. The museum has closing days (such as Mondays), so check opening hours before visiting for peace of mind. The displays feature primarily ancient documents and calligraphy, so it's best to take time reading the explanations as you view them. The castle grounds are lush with greenery, and it's pleasant to rest on a bench before or after your visit.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 45 minutes. Following immediately after viewing the Tenshu Terrace creates a smooth route.
