The sole remaining historic sake brewery in Miwa, said to have been founded in 1660 (Manji 3rd year). The main shop stands along the approach to Ōmiwa Shrine (大神神社), displaying the flagship brand "Mimuro Sugi" and other local sakes in impressive array. Miwa, at the foot of Ōmiwa Shrine known as the deity of sake, is also said to be the birthplace of the杉玉 (cedarwood ball) tradition hung at brewery eaves. The shop offers paid tastings where you can sample and compare to find your favorite bottle. Even without sake expertise, staff will help you choose based on your preferences. It's the perfect place to select a memorable souvenir bottle to commemorate your couple's journey.
Tips
Conveniently located just a short walk from Ōmiwa Shrine's Second Torii Gate along the approach, and about a 3-minute walk from JR Miwa Station. Tastings are paid and offerings vary by season, so inquire at the shop. Sake bottles are heavy, so bringing an eco-bag or insulated bag is helpful for carrying purchases home. If you're the designated driver, please refrain from tasting.
