Tour Freshwater Aquatic Exhibits and Interactive Displays, Then Enjoy Lunch at the Restaurant

About this spot

A prefectural museum standing on the shore of Lake Biwa, boasting one of Japan's largest freshwater aquatic displays. The enormous Biwa catfish, known as the "king of Lake Biwa," and the underwater tunnel tank where you feel as if walking through the lake are huge hits with children. The museum also features extensive exhibits tracing Lake Biwa's 4-million-year history and the lives of people connected to the lake, captivating adults as well. The Discovery Room, where children can learn while playing using all five senses, is a lifesaver for families with young children. The in-museum restaurant serves dishes featuring local lake specialties, making it possible to spend a full half-day here with lunch included—truly a definitive family outing destination.
