Housed in a restored wooden-frame stone warehouse built in the Meiji period, this is Otaru's representative glass shop. Otaru's glassmaking originated from herring fishing floats and oil lamps, and the shop displays colorful glass wares across floors with distinct Japanese, Western, and country atmospheres. The highlight is the tearoom "North One Hall," illuminated solely by 167 oil lamps. The flames flickering in the dim stone warehouse interior create a truly magical space, and staff are known to light each lamp one by one at opening—a sight worth seeing. Selecting glasses or vases for the two of you and enjoying tea under the lamplight will create memories that linger long after your trip.

Tips

Located along Sakaimachi Street (堺町通り). It's best to browse the retro shop lineup along Sakaimachi as you approach from the canal side. To catch the lamp-lighting ritual, arrive right after opening. Glass products are carefully wrapped upon purchase, but bringing a spacious bag is recommended for carrying.

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. The dimly lit North One Hall is atmospheric regardless of time, and is ideal for a quiet moment after lunch.
