Craft Shops in Log Houses Dotting the Forest, Hunting for Handmade One-of-a-Kind Pieces

About this spot

A shopping road in the forest of the New Furano Prince Hotel where log-house craft shops line a wooden path. 'Ningle' refers to forest wisdom-keepers (small folk) from the works of screenwriter Sō Kuramoto, who set stories in Furano. Woodwork, glasswork, paper crafts, and other handmade one-of-a-kind pieces with visible makers' signatures line each shop, and the experience of strolling through the forest and peeking into small shops in sequence feels like stepping into a story. Admission is free, and the dappled afternoon light is enchanting, but the place is equally renowned for its magical twilight atmosphere when lamps light the cabins. Search for that special keepsake to mark your couple's journey.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Furano Station; use the New Furano Prince Hotel parking lot. Many shops open mid-afternoon, so visiting in the afternoon is reliable. Wooden paths in the forest become slippery after rain, so wear appropriate footwear. Even in summer, shaded areas are cool, so a light cardigan is reassuring.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour. Afternoon dappled light is pleasant, and from dusk onward when lamps light the cabins is most magical.
