Stroll Through the Maple Tree Ravine Celebrated as 'Little Arashiyama' in the Soft Evening Light

A scenic spot representing Tsugaru, said to have originated when the feudal lord of the Hirosaki domain brought maple saplings from Kyoto during the Edo period. The ravine along the Nakano River, also called 'Little Arashiyama' in comparison to Kyoto's famous Arashiyama, is home to the Nakano Shrine (中野神社), where ancient cedar trees spanning centuries, waterfalls, and bridges spanning the stream weave together a landscape like a single brushstroke painting. Whether it's the blazing autumn foliage or the refreshing new green of spring, the scenic trail offers different seasonal faces. In the evening, when soft light filters through the trees and illuminates the stream's surface, the atmosphere becomes particularly romantic—the perfect finale for a couple to walk together. A beautiful conclusion to the Kokeshi village walk that connects Kuroishi's town and mountain charms.
Tips
About 5 minutes by car from the Tsugaru Traditional Crafts Museum, or about 20 minutes from central Kuroishi. Walks are free and open to the public with parking available. The riverside trail has stairs and slopes, so wear comfortable walking shoes. During peak autumn foliage season, it becomes very crowded, so plan with extra time. After dark, the ground becomes difficult to see, so complete your walk before sunset.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. The time when soft evening light filters through the trees is the most romantic. Visit before dark.
