A park adjoining Fuji-viewing Lake Park that breeds and displays red-crowned cranes (tanchō). Tsuruta Town, true to its name, has deep ties to cranes; given the historical records of many cranes once migrating to the area, the town treasures these birds as its symbol. In the breeding enclosures, you can observe the graceful red-crowned cranes up close, with their pure white plumage contrasted by the crimson of their crown. Their movements—spreading wings and calling out to one another—never grow tiresome to watch. Red-crowned cranes are said to mate for life; to view these birds, symbols of marital harmony, as a couple or partners creates a memorable and auspicious moment unique to this journey. Combined with Tsuru-no-Mai Bridge, this tour weaves together the story of "Crane Town Tsuruta."
Tips
Within walking distance from Fuji-viewing Lake Park with shared parking facilities. Admission is free. Since photography is through enclosure fencing, positioning your lens close to the net can help blur the mesh. Avoid using flash and making loud noises to prevent disturbing the birds.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. For capturing active movements, the afternoon hours when temperatures are calmer are ideal.
