A famous Hachinohe yokocho alley where 26 tiny food stalls with about 8 counter seats each line the passageway connecting Mikkacho and Mukacho streets. Two streets called "Ya'anse Market" and "Onde Market" glow with red lanterns, where senbei-jiru and Hachinohe-mae-oki mackerel, fresh squid dishes, and sake from local Hachinohe breweries are served across narrow counters. The charm of this yokocho lies in its closeness to shop owners and how conversations naturally start with locals seated beside you. With limited seating at each stall, it's perfect for groups to hop between shops—grab a bite at one place and slip under the next curtain. Conclude the day of food hopping that began at the morning market with the warmth of a port town's humanity and a final drink.
Tips
Just a short walk from Hacchi and the Hachinohe Art Museum, about 10 minutes on foot from Moto-Hachinohe Station. Shops open in the early evening and are easier to find seating at; later hours get crowded. Most are small shops with cash-only payment, so be prepared. With limited seating, larger groups should split into groups of 2-3 for smooth bar hopping.
Best time to visit
Plan for about 45 minutes or more. The early evening right after opening when the lanterns are lit is recommended. You can continue hopping into the night.
