During road construction work, this cave was discovered by chance, and excavations uncovered pottery and stone tools, confirming that ancient peoples used the cave as a dwelling. Inside, you can observe the formation of limestone formations and underground water flows up close, while the archaeological exhibits teach you the history of Iwaizumi's land and people. The museum's layout complements Ryusen Cave perfectly—you "marvel and are moved" by the cave structures there, and here you "understand the how and why," so exploring both together greatly enhances your understanding. Entry uses your combined ticket with Ryusen Cave. Photography is prohibited inside, so put away your camera and savor the experience while imprinting it on your memory.

Tips

Just across the street from Ryusen Cave's exit. You can enter directly with your Ryusen Cave entrance ticket (combined ticket). The temperature inside is also cool, so keep your jacket on. Since photography is prohibited, use the handrails and concentrate on your footing for safety.
